Military lineage WWII MB / GPW
Keep the two clocks straight: mechanical originality and documentary originality
- Record your frame-rail serial, firewall plate, and body-tub stamp separately — see /identification. If a rebuild ever mixes components, future owners (and MVPA judges) will thank you for documenting exactly what came from where.
- Willys and Ford parts are mechanically interchangeable but the stampings are not. If you replace a component, keep the removed original — it may be the more historically correct part even if a reproduction fits better.
- The frame crossmember shape (square on GPW, round on MB) is a fast way to know what frame you actually have, independent of what badge or data plate is on the vehicle.
- Join the G503 community (see /clubs-and-events) before you need it — the crowd-sourced serial registry is one of the few living records of which vehicles are documented where.
